Written Composition Fundamentals

In Written Composition Fundamentals (WCF), participants learn how to teach the structures of descriptive, narrative, process, compare-and-contrast, and persuasive paragraphs; how to help students enhance the quality of their paragraphs; and how to teach students to edit and revise paragraphs. Participants practice each paragraph structure themselves and leave with concrete, teachable steps for helping students plan, organize, and revise their own writing.

Audience: 1st–4th grade teachers; may also be appropriate outside that grade range for specific students.

Details: Runs 3.5 hours (half day), available in person, live virtual, or on-demand. Curriculum-agnostic.

Participants leave with evidence-based instructional strategies — not a scope-and-sequence or lesson routine — that can also be used as supplemental instruction alongside a core writing program.
