Structured Reading & Spelling Volume 1 & 2
In Structured Reading and Spelling (SRS), participants learn to deliver direct, explicit instruction in phonology, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, comprehension, and composition in a single lesson for adolescent and adult learners who need intensive foundational literacy support, using research-based methods and progress-monitoring tools. Each lesson integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing so learners build automaticity across all modalities rather than in isolated skills, with built-in progress monitoring to track growth toward independent literacy.
Audience: Reading interventionists and adult literacy teachers of adolescent and adult learners; may also be appropriate for other educators of these learners who need foundational literacy support.
Details: Runs 22 hours over 4 days, available in person or live virtual. Covers Volumes 1–2 of the curriculum; Volumes 3–4 are available as a separate on-demand follow-up course, which participants must complete in order to receive the Volumes 3–4 materials. The curriculum provides two instructional tracks: Standard pace, for participants who need to learn letter names and basic sounds of the English language, and Accelerated pace, for participants who can already identify letter names and basic sounds and are ready to move quickly into reading various syllable types and multisyllabic words.
Participants leave with direct, explicit instructional methods for phonology, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, comprehension, and composition in a single lesson, delivered in a daily 45–60 minute lesson routine, along with progress-monitoring tools to track student growth.
Prerequisites: None.
