Structured Reading & Spelling Certified Bridge Class

In Structured Reading & Spelling: Certified Bridge Class (SRS Bridge), participants learn to support older learners using Volumes 1–2 of Structured Reading and Spelling (SRS). Instruction reviews the essentials of structured literacy, explores the impact of limited literacy skills on adolescents and adults, and covers research-based instructional methods tailored to adolescent and adult learners. The Bridge format condenses SRS Volumes 1–2 into a single day, so already-certified specialists can add older-learner instruction to their existing skill set without repeating a full multi-day course.

Audience: CALTs and C-SLDSs working with adolescent and adult learners.

Details: Runs 6 hours over 1 day, available in person or live virtual. Participants who complete this Bridge class may purchase the Volumes 3–4 materials without attending the on-demand Volumes 3–4 course.

Participants leave with practice in research-based instructional methods for adolescent and adult learners, using fully scripted manuals with student materials covering word-attack skills for multisyllabic words, narrative and expository texts, vocabulary activities, comprehension and summarization activities, and advanced grammar skills that support composition, delivered in a daily 45–60 minute lesson routine.

Prerequisite: Documentation of certification through ALTA or CERI.
