Spelling Development Self-study

In Spelling Development Self-Study, participants learn how knowledge of English orthography is acquired through observation of student writing. The course explores the regularity of the English spelling system, shows how spelling supports reading, and explains how spelling both contributes to and results from learning language. Participants examine authentic student writing samples to see how spelling errors reveal what a student does and doesn't yet understand about the language.
