Multisensory Grammar

In Multisensory Grammar (MSG), participants learn instructional strategies that make the abstract concept of grammar concrete, strategies for increasing students' sentence complexity in writing, and the function of parts of speech in constructing and revising written paragraphs. Participants practice hands-on techniques — like color-coding and sentence manipulation — that make parts of speech and sentence structure concrete rather than abstract.

Audience: Elementary and middle school teachers, and any educator seeking knowledge of grammar instruction aligned with the Science of Reading.

Details: Runs 3.5 hours (half day), available in person, live virtual, or on-demand. Included in the Online Certification Program for Dyslexia Specialists (OCPDS). Includes a suggested list of mentor texts.

Participants leave with a scope and sequence of topics and instructional activities to be taught in a daily 5–10 minute lesson routine; can also be used as supplemental instruction alongside a core writing program.
