Language & Literacy for Young Learners: Kit 1 & 2
In Language & Literacy for Young Learners (LLYL), participants learn to teach preliteracy skills such as letter-sound knowledge, letter formation, and oral language development through language-rich instruction, and to plan and deliver instruction using a variety of visual and manipulative aids. Participants practice the visual and manipulative routines themselves — including songs, movement, and hands-on materials — before adapting them for their own classroom or center.
Audience: Pre-K and kindergarten teachers, and educators of prereaders at any grade level.
Details: Runs 12 hours over 2 days, available in person or live virtual. Materials are available in Spanish. Includes a suggested scope and sequence.
Participants leave with evidence-based strategies for instruction and implementation of a daily 15-minute lesson from a curriculum kit; can also be used as supplemental instruction alongside a core reading program.
Prerequisites: None.
