Developing Metacognitive Skills: Androcles and the Lion Retelling Pictures

Designed to support the Developing Metacognitive Skills course, this retelling set helps students learn to think about their own understanding as they reconstruct a story. Working through a clear sequence of illustrated story events, students practice noticing what they remember, predicting what comes next, and monitoring whether their retelling holds together.

Educators can use the set to:

• Model think-alouds that make invisible comprehension strategies visible
• Prompt predicting, questioning, and connecting before, during, and after retelling
• Guide students to sequence events and self-correct when the story doesn't fit
