Learning to read and spell is not a natural process. Some students struggle to become skilled readers despite good classroom instruction, and that persistent struggle can signal dyslexia or a related language-based learning disorder.

Defining Dyslexia gives you the knowledge to recognize it and respond, because proper identification and evidence-based instruction are essential to student success.

In this course, you will explore:

  • Models of literacy acquisition
  • The domains of language and how they affect literacy and learning
  • The characteristics of dyslexia
  • Critical, evidence-based components of dyslexia instruction
  • Related learning differences and disabilities, and appropriate accommodations

Audience: Teachers interested in or responsible for at-risk students or students with dyslexia (not for those who have completed Basic Language Skills)

Hours: 3.5 hours
