In Close Listening that Leads to Close Reading: Interactive Read Aloud, teachers will learn:

• the foundations of comprehension
• the rationale and research behind close reading and close listening
• analysis of text for complexity
• text dependent questioning
• modeling by thinking aloud
• the elements to teach such as author's word choice, voice, and tone
• how to bring all the elements together to address a teaching standard

The fundamental principle on which the class is based is that read aloud lessons must be planned and intentional. Participants plan, model, and leave with a read aloud lesson. This 6-hour course is designed for Grades K–2 Teachers.
