Minnesota READ Act Phase 2 Professional Development
Thank you for partnering with Neuhaus Education Center to fulfill Phase 2 of the Minnesota READ Act. We look forward to supporting you and your educators throughout this project.
Structured Literacy Unlocked
Program Overview
Project & Access: Runs through June 30, 2027. Participants will have access to the Structured Literacy Modules in Canvas for the duration of the project.
Asynchronous Structured Literacy Modules: Participants will complete 19 self-paced asynchronous modules (approximately 14 hours 10 minutes total). Module times reflect video run time only; allow extra time for activities, notes, and quizzes. The Modules explore the components of evidence-based structured literacy instruction, explaining how research grounded in the science of reading informs their necessity for skilled reading development and demonstrating practical application during direct instruction. To successfully complete the coursework, participants must finish all modules and earn a score of 80% or higher on each quiz (multiple attempts allowed). Participants may work through the modules at their own pace, with the flexibility to start and stop as needed. Participants may complete the modules in any order; however, the lessons within each module must be completed in order. Structured Literacy Modules Syllabus and Lesson Descriptions
Synchronous Building Knowledge into Practice Sessions: Participants will attend six live virtual sessions, 45 minutes each, following every set of three asynchronous modules. These sessions are designed to foster discussion, ensure understanding, and provide guidance on applying strategies for effective instruction. Content is tailored for teachers of students in grades 4-12. To receive credit, participants must log in individually on their own device with the link provided in NECSIS. Keep cameras on, remain in a stationary location, and be able to mute/unmute. Attend and actively participate in all six synchronous sessions. Participants must complete the three asynchronous modules before attending each corresponding synchronous session. Building Knowledge into Practice Syllabus

Structured Literacy Unlocked: Facilitator’s Guide
We recognize and appreciate your commitment to supporting teachers as they complete the requirements for Phase 2 of the Minnesota READ Act. Our Facilitator’s Guide is designed to support that work by providing purposeful prompts and guiding questions that encourage meaningful discussion, reflection, and thoughtful application of concepts introduced in the asynchronous Structured Literacy Modules. These discussions are intended to complement the synchronous Build Knowledge into Practice sessions, offering valuable opportunities for collaboration and deeper professional dialogue among colleagues. Facilitators are encouraged to adapt the guide as needed and incorporate additional prompts or questions that best support their team’s learning goals. To request a copy of the Facilitator’s Guide, please contact Professionaldevelopment@neuhaus.org.
