Reading Readiness

In Reading Readiness (RR), participants learn a daily structured literacy instructional framework for explicitly and systematically teaching the foundational components of literacy that lead to skilled reading, including letter recognition and phonological awareness, oral language, sound-symbol correspondences, spelling, and handwriting skills. Participants practice hands-on routines for letter recognition, phonological awareness, and handwriting using the accompanying manipulatives, building the foundation students need before formal reading instruction begins.

Audience: Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers and caregivers; may also be appropriate for teachers outside that grade range whose students lack foundational literacy skills.

Details: Runs 6 hours over 1 day, available in person, live virtual, or on-demand. The Story Retelling Manual is available in Spanish.

Participants leave with a lesson framework for a 20–30 minute daily instructional routine.
