Language Enrichment for Older Students

In Language Enrichment for Older Students (LEOS), participants learn to deliver a structured literacy intervention for upper elementary and middle school students who struggle with foundational literacy skills, including instruction in the structure of the English language for reading and spelling, and developing vocabulary, writing, and comprehension skills.

Audience: Grades 4–8 teachers; may also be appropriate for students outside that range who need intervention or remediation.

Details: Runs 30 hours over 5 days, available in person or live virtual. Includes Developing Metacognitive Strategies (DMS) and Scientific Spelling (SS).

Participants leave with a scope and sequence for implementing a daily 30–45 minute lesson routine; can also be used as supplemental instruction alongside a core reading program.
