DESCRIPTION:Basic Language Skills (BLS) is a comprehensive and intensive Structured Literacy curriculum that is the core curriculum of the Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program (DSPP). Upon completion of all the DSPP requisites including coursework\, practicums\, and documented teaching hours\, you are eligible to take the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) Competency Exam for Multisensory Structured Language Education at the Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) or Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) level. \nInterested in learning more about the Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program (DSPP)?Preview session participation and acceptance are required before registration in the Basic Language Skills Introduction class. \nThis session is an informal meeting to discuss Basic Language Skills. The Preview Sessions last about 90 minutes and are held in the afternoons\, 4-5:30. Knowledge of the structures of different paragraphs aids students in formulating and translating ideas.In Written Composition Fundamentals\, participants learn: \n\n\n\n\n\n1) how to teach the structures of descriptive\, narrative\, process\, compare and contrast\, and persuasive paragraphs;2) how to help students enhance the quality of their paragraphs; and3) how to teach students to edit and revise paragraphs.\n\n\n\nParticipants also engage in collaborative activities that extend their learning and can be presented to their students.
