Leveraging Student Data to Provide Perspective of an Educational Landscape
Dr. Tim Odegard, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology & Chair of Excellence in Dyslexic Studies
Middle Tennessee State University
Conversations around universal screening data often are student-centered and for a good reason. These data can differentiate instruction to improve a student’s learning outcomes. But have you considered that the investment of time and money in universal screening also can be aggregated and leveraged to characterize an educational landscape? Such data can be used to start conversations around the importance of leveraging science to improve student reading outcomes for all students. To illustrate this point, data from a state-wide initiative undertaken in partnership with researchers will be showcased to provide a case study of how data can be used to fuel thoughtful conversations.
