About Neuhaus Education Center

Neuhaus Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation dedicated to promoting reading success. Neuhaus provides evidence-based training and support to educators, supplies information and resources to families, and offers direct services to adult learners. Its staff includes licensed dyslexia therapists, authors of research papers in peer-reviewed journals and textbook chapters on effective reading instruction, and board members of international organizations that promote evidence-based reading instruction. Its services are offered in a variety of ways, including mentoring, individual instruction, online programming, and on-site courses.

How do we accomplish this mission?

We equip teachers with the latest research-based strategies and materials to teach reading, writing, and spelling to all students, including those with dyslexia.
We help parents with referrals for students who need intensive, individualized reading instruction, provide phone consultations at no cost, hold parent seminars and information sessions.
We provide classes to help adults with basic language skills.
What is the need?

At least one in five individuals experiences difficulty in learning to read.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has declared the lack of ability to read to be a public health issue. According to Dr. Reid Lyon of the NIH, poor readers are more likely to:

be on welfare,
be teen mothers,
be in our prisons, or
have mental health problems.
He also states that only 10% of U.S. teachers receive appropriate training to teach reading to students at risk for reading failure.
