AppSense: Leveling Literacy
Are your books in your children’s reading library challenging enough for them? Are you pushing their limits and increasing the text complexity levels? Or conversely, are you finding them reading at a frustration level? I am happy to share an app that can help take away some of the guess work and help you determine which books are most appropriate for your children. It is called Literacy Leveler.
Literacy Leveler makes it easy to level the children’s books that are already in your collection or help you find new books of an appropriate reading level. Literacy Leveler supports the popular Lexile, DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) and Guided Reading leveling systems.
Literacy Leveler is straight forward and easy to use. With a scanning device built right into the app, you simply scan the book’s ISBN number and afterwards you instantly see the book and its appropriate reading level scores. You may also search a book by title, author, or level. This app enables you to save your book’s findings to your own personal library for quick reference. The database focuses on grades K through 8. If you use the personal library feature, you may sort your library by reading level, title, and author.
Just one cautionary note, I found with some older book selections the ISBN numbers did not always read. But overall, it is a great app to have at your fingertips for making appropriate book selections.
Compatibility requires the iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for the iPhone 5. Literacy Leveler by Fikesfarm, LLC, may be purchased in the App store for $3.99
