Professional Development Plans for KASTOR Scholars
KASTOR scholars, in collaboration with their mentors, will craft results-based professional development plans. The plans will be based on personal and student-achievement goals in relationship to standards.
KASTOR scholars will be engaged in a continuous cycle of interactive, professional support activities.

-observe and critique other teachers’ reading instruction

-complete a self-efficacy or self-perception survey
-complete reading teacher knowledge survey
-discuss possible topics of study with mentor and other scholars
-develop a written/filmed statement of learning goals

4. Deepen knowledge of reading development

-participate in webinar on reading development
-read from reference materials\resources recommended by mentor and other scholars
-complete Neuhaus classes
-reflect on student performance as related to reading development in forum discussions

5. Learn research-based reading instructional practices

-complete Neuhaus classes that match learning needs
-participate in webinars on spelling and comprehension development
-observe and critique targeted reading lessons

6. Build, implement, and evaluate reading instructional plans

-participate in webinar on flexible grouping
-design instruction to meet students’ needs
-review instructional design with mentor and other scholars
-implement instruction
-reflect on implementation of instruction

7. Continually assess student learning

-administer and analyze on-going screening tools
